Session: Why Your PC Only Has Sixteen Colors

A fun, fast-paced lightning talk about why the text colors in Linux only supports sixteen colors. (As in many things in technology, it’s about compatibility.) Provides a brief history of the PC color mode and why IBM made the engineering decisions that gave text the distinctive sixteen text colors and eight background colors. Also explains why the colors look they way they do, and why there’s a “bright black” color.
