Session: The Lay of the Land for Data in 2021

Data is everywhere and growing at exponential rates. Let’s stop for a second to understand the environment and look at evolving trends.

In the early 90s, Relational DataBase Management Systems (RDBMS) were the state-of-the-art of data storage. The panacea. However, we shortly realized that the data could take many more forms that would not always follow the Third Normal Form. Where are we today? Between streaming and graph databases, between IoT and clickstream, where do you fit? Are you still spending time designing data warehouses or deploying data processing on Kubernetes? Where does Open Source fit in this ecosystem?

This session is not at all marketing: it focuses on understanding the lay of the land for data, data storage, data processing, elastic capacities, and much more. And for those who know me, I might be slightly opinionated: I will leave some time for Q&A and debate.

Takeaways: understand the situation and trends to make better decisions when it comes to data processing.

Audience: anyone who is dealing with any form of data processing.
