Session: An Overview of Kubernetes Operators and the Operator SDK
The Operator construct is a best-practice mechanism for seamlessly adding custom resources to Kubernetes platforms. Operators enable the Kubernetes platform to better manage stateful applications, and also to automate common manual application operation activities such as configuration, maintenance and application lifecycle management. In this talk, we provide a broad overview of operators including their architecture and common use cases. In addition, we explore the Operator SDK, which is a popular toolkit for the development of Go, Helm, and Ansible based operators. Finally, this talk briefly covers both the Operator Hub and Red Hat Marketplace which are two popular repositories that provide a large number of operators for reuse.
