Session: Accelerating Website and App Development with a Git-based Headless CMS

Headless CMSs have increased developer productivity by providing an API-first platform for quickly building not just websites, but also all other types of multi-channel digital experiences such as native mobile apps, e-commerce front-ends, AR/VR experiences, OTT video, Alex apps, and more. The flexibility to use any front-end development framework frees developers to use the best tool for the job.

The typical CMS built around a database (whether SQL or NoSQL), however, still suffers from bottlenecks in the developer workflow that hinder productivity and team collaboration. Utilizing Git as a content repository for the CMS can resolve many of these issues — through better support for moving content and code among environments, branching, CI/CD tool support, collaboration with content editing teams, Github/Gitlab integration, and more.

Using Crafter CMS, an open source Git-based headless platform, we will show how to accelerate the development of various headless CMS use cases, including:

  • Personalized, dynamic enterprise websites
  • JAMstack static sites
  • Augmented reality experiences
  • Alexa apps

We will highlight how to effectively leverage Git as a content repository, along with Git-based workflows, and DevOps tool integration.
