2021 Call for Papers (CFP) – What We’re Looking For

The 2021 All Things Open call-for-papers officially opens on Tuesday, March 30.

Anyone and everyone interested is encouraged to submit a talk title and abstract before the closing date of Friday, April 30.

Talk formats will include 15-minute keynotes delivered from the main stage, 15-minute “burst” talks designed to highlight a topic/micro-topic, traditional 45-minute sessions delivered on tracks, and extended 2.5 – 4.0-hour workshop sessions.

Nearly 250 talks/sessions were featured in 2020. The goal is to feature approximately the same number in 2021.

SPECIAL TOPICS WE’RE FOCUSING ON FOR 2021 INCLUDE:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) / Machine Learning
    Open source tools, platforms, and frameworks are enabling and pushing the evolution of AI/ML like never before, and we want attendees to learn more. A few of the topics we’re seeking talks on include:

    • Case studies

    Cloud environments and related technologies are fundamentally changing the way organizations do business and open source in the process.

  • Big Data

    More data is being collected than ever before, but processing and deriving intelligence from the data using open source tooling and technologies remains a challenge. One thing is for sure – this topic, and the tools and technologies that enable it, will only increase in importance moving forward.

  • Security

    More than ever before, security is a major consideration for anyone working in / with open source. Special topics might include software composition analysis (SCA), tools and processes used to secure and manager OSS, risk assessment processes and methodologies, and more.

  • Open Source Projects

    We’ve wanted to feature a track, or at the very least several sessions, showcasing favorite and “hidden gem” open source projects to give our audience an opportunity to learn more about the project itself, how to contribute, and the people involved. If you’re involved with, or perhaps know a person or persons involved in an interesting open source project encourage them to consider submitting a talk.

  • Licensing, Business Models and Open Source Implementation Case Studies

    Business models and how open source is implemented in a business environment remains of great interest to us. We have found that many models exist and that these models are constantly changing to adapt to today’s evolving business structures and technology environments. Closely related, open-source licensing remains extremely important yet often overlooked or misunderstood.

  • Inclusion & Diversity

    The 2019 stand-alone event was a tremendous success as nearly 600 registered and attendees came from all over the U.S. and the world. We’d like to expand programming in 2020, and as a result, more talk submissions are needed. The Diversity & Inclusion event will take place on Sunday, October 18. D&I related topics and talks will also be featured on Monday, October 19 and Tuesday, October 20.
